While 2021 proved to be another challenging year with Covid continuing to persist in our lives, we began to learn to deal with it and still continue with our work and lives. The program at Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter had changed from housing the dogs at the kennel to relying heavily on volunteers to foster the dogs in their home. We managed to be able to have meet and greets at the shelter property on the weekends, which boosted everyones spirit. Greeting and sharing this outdoor time with the dogs running and playing and socializing made us feel a little bit normal again.

Since the dogs were not always at the shelter, photos needed to be taken at the fosters residence which could be a challenge. I am happy to say that I was still able to take photos of 50 dogs. Over 678 images. Here are a few of our dogs that were successfully adopted this year.

W were able to have an outdoor golf event “Par for the pups” in the summer to benefit the shelter as well. Aspen enjoyed greeting the golfers at this event.

In September, I had the opportunity to attend another popular canine event- the canine carnival where many shelters were representative.
Toby and his mom won a contest that I had at that event. I was so excited to find out that she won the prize since Toby was adopted from Second chance. His mom was so excited to have a chance to show off how much Toby has changed since his time at our shelter and to celebrate their bond with her resulting album.

In November I accepted the challenge to complete multiple challenges along with other fellow photographers to continue to grow as a photographer. We have completed 4 so far and they have been challenging and fun. they have made me look at the area around me with fresh eyes to find ways to complete the challenges we are assigned. While there are bragging rights if you get chosen for the top 10 or 20 images, the challenge is really against yourself to look at the world and photography in a different way and be a better photographer than the day before.
