From Everyday Moments to Adventure: FAQs for Choosing Your Pet Photography Experience

Booking a pet photography session is an exciting experience, but you may have some questions about how to prepare. Here are answers to some of the most common questions I receive, helping you feel confident and ready for your session!

How do I choose a location?

Choosing the perfect location is an essential part of the process! During our pre-consultation, we’ll discuss options tailored to your vision and needs, taking into account:

  • The type of session you’ve booked – If you’ve chosen a Traditional Session, we can hold it at a scenic local park, your home, or even in a studio setting for a polished, timeless look. If you’ve opted for a Day in the Life Session, the location will be determined by the special moments you want to capture—whether it’s the joyful chaos of everyday life that ends in snuggles on the couch, a favorite hiking trail, or time spent at a meaningful vacation spot.
  • The type of artwork you want – Whether you envision a statement piece for your home or an album that tells your pet’s story, we’ll select a setting that enhances your final artwork.
  • Your pet’s personality – Does your dog love open fields, splashing in the water, or relaxing in a quiet, cozy space? The right location should reflect who they are.
  • Special considerations – If your pet has mobility challenges or behavioral sensitivities, we’ll find a safe and comfortable environment for them.

No matter the setting, my goal is to create a session that highlights your pet’s unique personality while providing a relaxed and enjoyable experience for both of you.

Can I be in the images as well?

Absolutely! The heart of my photography is capturing the incredible bond between you and your pet. While we can certainly take a classic portrait, I specialize in documenting the natural, in-between moments—those shared glances, the laughter, and the quiet moments of connection.

If you’re camera-shy, don’t worry! I’ll guide you through the session in a way that feels natural and comfortable, focusing on storytelling and emotion rather than stiff poses. You don’t have to do anything but be yourself and enjoy the experience with your pet!

My dog needs to be on a leash. Is that okay?

Of course! Your pet’s safety is always the top priority. If your dog needs to remain on a leash during the session, I can seamlessly remove it in post-production at no additional cost.

If your dog requires a harness or gentle leader, we can discuss retouching options to ensure the final images look polished and natural. Additionally, we’ll choose a secure location where your pet feels comfortable and can be themselves.

My pet is a senior, or I have just learned I only have a short time left. What do I do?

First and foremost, I want you to know that I understand how important this time is, and I am here to support you. Celebration-of-life sessions are given high priority, and I will do my best to schedule your session as soon as possible.

These sessions are designed to be peaceful and meaningful, tailored to your pet’s comfort and mobility. Whether in your home, a favorite park, or another quiet place they love, we’ll create images that celebrate their life and your beautiful bond together.

If you have any other questions or want to book a session, don’t hesitate to reach out. Every pet has a unique story, and I would be honored to help you tell yours through heartfelt images that you’ll cherish forever.

Your ‘Day in the Life’ session sounds very fun — I didn’t know you offered those!

I am actually going back to them. This was my original goal- but got away from it. Coaching helps to see my true vision and get away from the noise!
