Lens of Intent: 4 focus words for My pet photography in 2024

As this year closes- I am looking to the future and to the blank canvas that lays before me of 2024 and how it will unfold.   A canvas brimming with possibilities. It is a rebirth of sorts.  A time to think of the things we would like to do different or improve upon. While many embark on promises like to exercise, lose weight etc, I choose to look at arching areas of focus.    After my reflection of the past year  I started a plan for the new year.  The plan still unfolds in my mind, but first I needed to think of some words I wanted to focus on in the coming year.

In some of my mentoring groups we talk about being focused on a keyword for the year…then there is facebook.- I am sure you have seen those little blocks of words that get sent out each December  and tell you that the first 4 word you see will be your words for the new year.  Well let’s face it- I played along, but the words I came up with rang true.  They felt like the right words for my year. One had already been on my mind.  So here are my 4 words:

If you have been following me, you understand the birth of Nancy Kieffer photography. It all started with the loss of my soul dog Midnight.  I will continue to  focus on getting the word out to people of the importance of having a photo session with their dog or horse when they are well and in the prime of their life, but also celebrate the bond between the bond with their human even when they find that they are faced with a sudden impending loss.

My other purpose is in fundraise for shelters and other animal groups in need. The success of our 2024 calendar and tales of the world projects have spurred me on to come up with more ways to fundraise for the deserving groups.

In order to provide my clients with  a personalized and custom experience during their photo session, I continue to strengthen my photography through continuing education.  This not only includes strengthening my photography or lighting skills but also through my certification as a pet loss grief specialist, and through community groups with fellow photographers that wish to not only wish to provide our clients with quality artwork,  but also wish to give back through philanthropic sessions or projects like the calendar contest.

Plans have begun for the 2025 calendar contest. if you are a business and wish to contribute an item for one of the mini-contests, please send me a Dm or email me. I am planning on starting this years contest Mid February, so look for more news coming soon.

You might question why  I listed continuing education under strength rather than lessons.  I learn something new everyday, but this year I am thinking of this word on how I can help clients and organizations in more ways.  Whether it is giving simple tips on what to expect at a photo session or teaching rescue organizations some simple tips on capturing images via a cell phone, I will offer guidance through my blog, social media and community outreach

I am grateful to all who have supported my photography journey.  This year, I have a new way to express gratitude to certain groups.  I have heard of some photographers doing a pet of the month. I have my own spin I am doing on that this year.  One that will not only benefit the winner, but will also celebrate a certain group.  We start off the year with Celebrating seeing eye dogs/guide horses. More details next week.

Are you ready to make this year the most memorable!  join me in making 2024’s canvas filled with cherished memories and meaningful connections. Wolfie is around 9 years old and though his exact breed is a mystery, one thing is for sure he is a lover. Wolfie is very gentle when taking treats from your hands, he knows basic commands and is looking for an active family who loves to go for walks and play in the yard. He can be selective when it comes to his canine friends so he prefers to the king of the castle. He would do best with older kids due to his size, as he will knock the little ones over. He makes an excellent cuddle companion!

I really like the way you have chosen “focus words” to lead you in 2024. I think this is a wonderful practice and something we can all learn from. Have a healthy, safe, and happy New Year! Thank you for always “focusing” in on a rescue that needs to find a spot.
