Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter was started in 2015 for a way to help give inmates and dogs a second chance at life. It has been run by Onondaga County and groups of volunteers. Local dogs are pulled from the City of Syracuse shelter and then brought up to the shelter which is on the prison property. The dogs are cared for by inmates, their commanding officers, a certified trainer and volunteers. Not only are the dogs well cared for, but the inmates learn some productive skills as they get ready to be released.

Because of the pandemic, Second Chance has had to temporarily rely on people willing to foster these dogs. The number of foster’s available limits the number of dogs we are able to care for. If you are willing to foster a dog, please contact https://jamesvillesecondchance.com . The benefits of volunteering are many, including the knowledge that you helped bring a lost soul to a new and wonderful place and the many kisses, licks and cuddles you will have along the way.

Currently these two beauties are looking for homes:

Peach

This beautiful girl is a little Peach. She is only around a year old and was found as a stray. She loves to play with other dogs but is looking for a cat free home. She is very strong and has a high energy level, so she may do best with older children. She enjoys going for walks, running in the yard and cuddling on the couch with her people. She would love an active family to grow with that will take her on adventures and show her all the love she deserves.

Brownie

Brownie is our hefty boy! He is strong and large at 70# of all muscle. He has been looking for a home for a little while now. His perfect home would be cat and kid free. He is dog particular, so would have to meet with any potential fur siblings. He is around 4 years and enjoys going for hikes, playing with his favorite toys and then getting a good belly rub. He would love to have an experienced dog owner. I know we can find the perfect forever home for him.
