This blog Circle is generally used to profile our pet photography. This week however, I am going to go a little wild.  The topic for this week is silhouettes, but weather, timing and a head cold hindered my completing a new image.  Instead, I am looking back at some images I took of the wild horses of Assateague Island.  Silhouettes can add mood  to an image or highlight a detail that you drew your attention in the first place.  Generally when you think of a silhouette, you think of a very dark image on a bright background.  I find that partial silhouettes can be just as dramatic and add a little interest about the subject you are focusing on.

My first image is from Assateague Island.  We came along this trio on the beach.  One of the horses is standing and in full silhouette, while  the other two had just enough light to show off some of their features.  The second image was taken another year in Assateague.  While a silhouette would best be taken from a lower angle  framing the subject against a brighter background,  I was at a disadvantage being on a hill with the horse walking up toward me.  I loved how the rising sun lit up this horse’s tail as if it was on fire.

My last image is of a horse that was up for adoption a few years ago at a local rescue.  I was drawn to how the light entering the stall contoured this animals body.
