Dog friendly restaurants in Syracuse, New York

Life in Syracuse can provide a list of activities for you and your dog no matter the season. Once Spring is upon us though, we can have our dogs accompany us to many dog friendly restaurants. The community is so pet-friendly and makes it easy to venture out with dogs. Here are just a few restaurants/pubs that welcome dogs in their outdoor areas.

Crazy Daisies

I’m not sure if you’ve ever checked this place out but—it’s a MUST. Crazy Daisies started out as a cute little greenhouse which has now grown into a greenhouse and café.  The café is surrounded by a large open porch with roof coverage from the sun. There is uncovered outdoor seating as well. In the late fall we enjoyed seating in a portion of the greenhouse with patio heaters.  Dogs are welcome at Crazy daisies on the porch and outdoor areas. My most recent visit for Sunday brunch noted several dogs relaxing with their owners listening to the live music.  The Mayrose Pizza is delicious and if you like mimosa’s you need to try one of their mimosa flights.  Learn more about it @https://crazydaisiesflowers.com/

Dinasaur Bar-B-Que

Dinasaur Bar-B-Que has a long history in the Syracuse area.  It opened its doors in 1988 and has been a hot spot ever since. It has been so popular that they have now opened restaurants in other cities.  The restaurant loves dogs in their outdoor seating areas.  They will even provide water bowls for them.  They have also been known to host events for local rescues.  While this vegetarian previously had slim pickings with their meat laden menu, I note that they now have added an Impossible BBQ burger and I always loved their cornbread.  Check them out @ https://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/syracuse/

Heritage Hill

This brewhouse is a short distance from Syracuse in Pompey, NY. Enjoy beers and food made with their farm raised meats, grains and local vegetables. The view and sunset from this hilltop location are beautiful. This dog friendly brewhouse welcomes dogs at their outdoor tables. Farm animals are on the property and can be loads of fun for children, but if Fido is animal reactive, you may wish to leave him home. Learn more at https://heritagehillbrewery.com/

As I indicated, this lists just a few locations that are animal friendly. if you have some other places in mind, let me know so that I can check them out to add to my list.

Lessons from a Senior Dog

Nancy Kieffer

Working as a pet photographer as well as volunteering in a rescue, I have been blessed with getting to know a number of senior dogs. While I lost my Midnight at a young age, I was very fortunate to have Shamus with me for many years. Shamus was my clown, but boy did he know how to live! His wisdom grew as the years pressed on. I learned that each day spent with my senior dog was a lesson on the importance of living in the present, cherishing our bond and embracing our everlasting friendship.
