On Par for Pups to Benefit Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter

I recently had the opportunity to take part in an event to benefit Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter. This was a golf tournament fundraiser for the shelter.

Benefit challenges

Weeks before the event, the shelter was gathering sponsors and donations for raffle baskets and were busy organizing the event that would be held at Casolwood Golf Course in Canastota New York. The day of the golf course though began rainy and we were holding our breath to see if the event would be washed out. Everyones eyes were on the radar and where the rain was expected to go. it was with a sigh of relief when we got the news that it looked like the rain would stay away from us and the event was on.

Luckily central New York has some die hard golfers, because no sooner than they started signing in for the event, the rain started again. Luckily it was a short shower and by the time the teams were ready to take off, the weather was looking better.

Aspen, one of our current adoptable dogs, was having fun being the dog ambassador for the event and greeting all the teams. We took a drive around to the holes as the tournament was in progress to meet and greet all our attendees. Riding in the golf cart was a special treat for Aspen.

Back by the golf club, we had a putting contest for golfers to get a hole in one. We had multiple golfers able to make that feat.

The day turned out to be a great one and the major rain waited until the teams were ready to come back to eat. Top the day off with good food and prizes, it made for a wonderful day. Thank you to all that took part in the event.

Lessons from a Senior Dog

Nancy Kieffer

Working as a pet photographer as well as volunteering in a rescue, I have been blessed with getting to know a number of senior dogs. While I lost my Midnight at a young age, I was very fortunate to have Shamus with me for many years. Shamus was my clown, but boy did he know how to live! His wisdom grew as the years pressed on. I learned that each day spent with my senior dog was a lesson on the importance of living in the present, cherishing our bond and embracing our everlasting friendship.
