Walk on the Wild Side

It was a cold, but sunny morning Saturday when I joined some fellow photographers for a walk through Rosamond Gifford Zoo.  I had limited time and knew one of the first places I wanted to go was to the snow leopard exhibit to see if Asa, the newest snow leopard was out.  I was happy to see that he was out and about and in a playful mood.  Asa is about 6 months old, and was busy climbing the branches in the exhibit, but did come over by the window for a brief moment to enable me to get a closeup shot of him.   I headed to the elephant exhibit next and although Siri was inside, the clouds came overhead for a few seconds to allow me to catch a nice closeup of her face.  A few more seconds the sun started to reappear and I was struck by the way the sun shone on the stack of hay that Siri was just starting to gather.

On to one of my favorites!  The red wolves.  Winter time is always to the best time to catch a glimpse of these allusive creatures, as there is no tree cover to hide them.  On the way out, I stopped by to visit the new Blue Cranes and then saw this bird (unsure of species) snuggled in an ice formation that  provided a nice backdrop.
