In today’s digital world, we love the convenience of having everything at our fingertips—especially photos. But have you ever taken a picture, saved it to your phone, and then… forgotten about it? It happens all the time. Digital files get buried in our endless camera rolls, lost when we upgrade devices, or sit on a hard drive that eventually fails.
That’s why, when it comes to the portraits of your beloved pets, relying on digital files alone isn’t enough. Why printed artwork matters goes beyond just having a photo—it’s about ensuring those special memories don’t disappear.

A Personal Story: The Day My Computer Crashed
About a year ago, I had a moment that truly reinforced why printed artwork matters and why digital files alone aren’t always reliable. I had been working on edits for several portraits when, out of nowhere, my computer crashed and needed to be sent out for repair. At first, panic set in—what if I lost everything?
Thankfully, I had been backing up my work in multiple places. My images were saved on an external hard drive, and my active edits were automatically backed up through Backblaze. Because of that system, I only had to re-edit a few lost files rather than start from scratch. It was a relief, but it also reminded me how fragile digital files can be. If I hadn’t had multiple backups, those images could have been gone forever.
This experience made me even more passionate about providing pet owners with printed artwork—something they can always see, hold, and cherish, without worrying about lost files or technology failures.
Why My Digital Files Are My Most Valuable Item
In my business, digital files are the highest-priced item on my list. Why? Because they are my originals—my negatives. They hold immense value as the foundation of every piece of art I create. Unlike a simple snapshot, each portrait I craft is a carefully designed and edited masterpiece, meant to celebrate the deep bond you share with your pet.
While I understand the desire for digital copies, my primary focus is on creating artwork that you can see, touch, and cherish every day—not just something that disappears into the depths of your phone. This is why printed artwork matters—it provides a lasting, tangible connection to the love you share with your pet.

How to Protect Your Digital Files
As I learned firsthand (as mentioned above), digital files can be lost, corrupted, or misplaced in an instant. That’s why it’s essential to take precautions:
✅ Backing up in multiple locations – Save your file to an external hard drive, cloud storage, and a USB drive.
✅ Keeping it organized – Store your file in a dedicated folder so it’s easy to find when you want to revisit it.
Because I know how devastating it can be to lose important images, I take extra precautions on my end as well. Every client’s digital files are backed up in three separate locations, ensuring they are always safe. While I cannot guarantee indefinite storage, I do my best to protect your memories for as long as possible.

Your Pet’s Legacy Deserves More Than a Digital Afterthought
It’s easy to forget that digital files aren’t forever. They’re fragile, fleeting, and all too easy to misplace. But artwork? That’s something that stands the test of time. This is why printed artwork matters—it’s not just about having a photo, but about preserving the memories that mean the most.
When you invest in a portrait session with me, you’re not just getting a file—you’re getting a lasting piece of art that honors your pet’s place in your life.
